The Seventh Seal - Det sjunde inseglet (1957) is set in the medieval times in Europe, during a devastating plague. The film revolves around the story of a Swedish knight named Antonius Block, returning home after the Crusades, who is visited by Death himself and allowed to play a game of chess with the Grim Reaper in order to prolong his life. Block is a man of reason, knowing that he has almost no chance of winning. All he desires is more time to delay the inevitable. A fragile postponement from a certain fate, while hoping that the chess match with the all-powerful deity will help him answer questions about faith, death, and the loneliness of mankind in the world...
