On a desolate, snow-covered road in Colorado, novelist Paul Sheldon's car careens off the icy pavement, sending him tumbling into a ditch. His luck seems to turn when he is rescued by Annie Wilkes, a devoted fan of his popular character, Misery Chastaine. However, Paul soon discovers that Annie's obsession with him goes far beyond mere fandom. Crippled, drugged, and completely at Annie's mercy, he must find a way to escape her increasingly unstable and dangerous clutches before it's too late.
